Valley European

Valley † European is both a word play on European auto repair shops found throughout the San Fernando Valley and a pointed commentary on the exodus of European Americans from South Los Angeles to Northwest Los Angeles during the post World War II period. That process — part of blockbusting, redlining, and white flight — was almost equally as violent to communities of color as present-day gentrification, which works in several ways similar to the aforesaid but in reverse. This is the first in a series of projects by artists and designers which examine the terrain of placeism and mental segregation on the basis of geographic location within the actual Los Angeles City Limits, and how these social practices are rooted in racist and classist ideology and thought. Set in Karrik by Lucas LeBihan and Jean-Baptiste Morizot.
